SACRAMENTO – The City of Sacramento issued an open invitation for all residents and neighborhood groups to stop by four public “Open House” meetings and chat about the city’s future. City officials said residents are welcome to drop in anytime at an Open House meeting, grab a bite to eat and leave their thoughts and ideas.

The city expects to grow by over 200,000 over the next 25 years and General Plan 2030 will serve as a guide to address the transportation, housing, lifestyle and safety needs of the growing community. Residents will have the opportunity to review draft policies, and voice their opinions before the General Plan 2030 begins a year-long adoption process.

The City has been working on the new General Plan since 2004. A General Plan is an official statement of jurisdiction regarding the extent and types of development needed to achieve the community’s physical, economic and social goals. Two rounds of Town Hall Forums, in 2005 and 2006, helped the City set the visions and guiding principles for the new General Plan. Over 2,300 residents participated in the Town Hall Forums. A phone survey with over 1,500 participants was then conducted to confirm the qualitative data from the Forums.

The upcoming Open House meetings will be the next phase of gathering public input. Residents are encouraged to drop in for a preview of the policies drafted from their input in the previous meetings and to suggest further revisions. Each of the four Open House meetings will be open for three hours.
